Kids’ Church, Abu Dhabi
During our time living in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Marci and I felt led by the Lord to host “Kids’ Church” in our clubhouse compound. We first started “Kids’ Church” for our own daughters, Grace and Faye, but as more people began to come we realized that Jesus was using it to reach people. We invited any expatriate (someone who was not from the UAE but working on a visa) whom we knew was not a Muslim to bring their kids for worship, a message, and small groups. Proselytizing in UAE was strictly forbidden and we followed the law carefully (Romans 13). Although we were open about our faith and practices, we did not blatantly try to convert. We certainly did not expect that parents would stand in the back and listen—and even worship with us on occasion! Only Jesus knows the fruit that those seeds will reap, but I’m praying for a hundredfold harvest!
As I think back on those Spirit-filled moments, I pray that the Lord would grant many more opportunities to invite non-believers into our homes and our lives with the intention of sharing Jesus with them. I also pray for opportunities to gather believers of different denominational backgrounds together to worship Jesus in unity and strengthen our commitment to the Great Commission—together not apart. These opportunities are possible wherever you are. Please ask Jesus for an opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with someone or to invite them to an event that might allow them to hear the gospel again or the very first time. God planned good works for you today before the foundation of the world (Eph. 2:10) and there is unspeakable joy when we fulfill them by the power of the Spirit.
